Why Choose Montessori
“We witnessed the child-led teaching method with our son and it is exciting to see him lead his own education. Last year his interest was practical life skills and often he came home eager to sweep the floor or fold clothes. This year the sensory area is a favourite and we find him tracing letters at home. Not only has our son grown academically, but also socially. In this mixed age classroom, the older students are great role models. His curiosity to learn new things is sparked by seeing what the older students are working on.” – Myrtle & Desmond
Montessori Education is a method of teaching developed by Italian physician and educator, Dr. Maria Montessori, based on her extensive experience in special education.
Montessori education is fundamentally a model of human development, and an educational approach based on that model. The Montessori method places a high level of emphasis on growing the child’s sense of independence, freedom within limits in their learning environment, and respect for the child’s natural psychological development. At the same time, Montessori teachers are trained to be always ready to assist and direct. Their purpose is to stimulate the child’s enthusiasm for learning and to guide it, without interfering with the child’s natural desire to teach themselves and become independent.
Everything in a Montessori classroom has a specific use or purpose. There is nothing in the prepared environment that the child cannot see or touch. All of the furniture and equipment is scaled down to the child’s size and is within easy reach, which encourages the child to become more independent and be eager to learn.
Montessori has 5 specific areas. These five areas help in the development of every sector within the child’s brain, preparing the child for life’s many experiences.
